About Us
Who We Are: MediKin™ teaching aides have been bringing magic to hospitals around the world for decades. There is nothing like a MediKin to help engage a child’s curiosity, dry up their tears, give them an understanding of their treatment or medical condition, and break through age and language barriers. We offer a full line of MediKins, special adapters, and books to help young patients play away their fear and take an active role in their treatment.
Our Story: In 1990 the founders’ 18-month old grandson was suddenly diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. They struggled to answer some difficult questions...
• How do you help a toddler understand the treatments they are receiving?
• Is there a gentler, less clinical, way to explain things to the child and the family?
• How can the child and family be prepared to face the experience without fear?
Later that year, they attended an annual meeting of child life professionals and pediatric nurses and discovered they weren’t the only ones asking these questions. There was a vital need for a medical education doll to help kids and families understand their diagnosis and treatments. Legacy Products MediKins were born.
Their grandson beat the odds and is a healthy young man. Legacy Products has been working with major hospitals and clinics for over 30 years to design and produce a full line of teaching tools for medical professionals and educators. Our programs and products are developed with their input, and often at their request.
Today, child life specialists, medical professionals, and health educators in 49 states and across the world rely on our realistic and adaptable MediKin teaching aides. They are role models and friends – experiencing the same medical diagnosis as the child.
