Developing A Culture of Servant Leadership in the Field of Child Life (2016)
Participants will be introduced to the servant leadership model, instructed on the key characteristics of servant leaders, and learn about how it has been successfully integrated into one academic institution’s child life curriculum. Participants will then have opportunity to reflect upon their own servant leaderships skills and brainstorm in groups methods of integrating these ethical principles into their own clinical practice.
■ Define the term ‘servant leader’ and identify key characteristics of servant leadership.
■ Integrate concepts related to servant leadership with the guiding ethical principles of the child life council.
■ Recognize the need for integrating servant leadership principles in child life education and clinical practice.
■ Theorize ways to integrate these principles into his or her own professional identity.
