Leveraging Extended Reality to Shape the Future of Patient Experience

Back to Package

Our hospital’s Child Life Department pioneered the effort to integrate technology as a complementary, non-pharmacological intervention throughout the hospital. We developed an interdisciplinary committee and partnered our hospital’s innovation center and community partners to develop a program to champion this work. We obtained a substantial inventory of relevant technology for clinical practice and implemented a training program for our child life staff. We used a quality improvement methodology to evaluate the program and determine best practices. Jennifer Staab is leading research initiatives aimed at evaluating the efficacy and best practices associated with integrating extended reality programming to supplement and augment child life services. Abe Homer has worked as a gaming and technology specialist for three years and has pioneered best practices and innovation in this sector.

Objectives:

1) Participants will be able to summarize how healthcare institutions can leverage technology to improve patient experience and other important outcomes

2) Participants will be able to discuss strategies for successfully implementing and integrating technology into the patient experience.

3) Participants will be able to identify potential barriers to implementing technology into practice and strategies for overcoming these obstacles.

Suggested Domain: Intervention
