Change Is Here to Stay: Establishing Team Unity and Creating a Culture of Psychological Safety

Over three months, one child life team added one new permanent team member, four temporary team members and another left for maternity leave. Team-building, communication and integration into unit practice became a main focus of this project. This transition was challenging but helped support professional growth, promote high team performance and foster positive patient and family experiences.

Objectives:
Define psychological safety and the change curve.
Describe strategies and best practices that can be implemented to create a more supportive team culture.
Discuss the benefits of a psychologically safe culture.
Identify gaps in current practices that are preventing a culture of psychological safety.
