Child Life Specialists Creating Collective Change: The Development of a Hospital-Wide Bereavement Committee

Families deserve coordinated, quality care at the end of life. However, practice variations across settings can stifle efforts to systematically provide evidence-based supports. This presentation will detail the child life-driven creation of a hospital-wide committee to champion standardized and sustainable improvements in bereavement care. Attendees will also explore ways child life specialists are positioned to lead institutional change.

Objectives:
Examine the creation of and outcomes achieved by the multidisciplinary, hospital-wide bereavement committee.
Explore evidence-based strategies for building and sustaining a hospital-wide and multidisciplinary improvement initiative.
Review current research evidence and survey findings concerning bereavement programming and practices in pediatric healthcare settings.
