Examining Child Life's Role in Pediatric-Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (P-SAFE) Cases

This poster allows child life specialists to understand the role child life has with P-SAFE patients. Child life specialists will become familiar with common stress point, various interventions, types of training, and ways they can provide support to SAFE patients.

Objectives:
Discuss the perceived benefits of child life inclusion with SAFE patients.
Examine and understand the role and training of child specialist with patients undergoing a SAFE exam.
Explore the stressors child life specialists perceive children in this population experience.
Understand the stressors child life specialists in this role experience.

Anna Schmitz

Anna Schmitz earned her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), concentration Child Life at The University of Alabama. She then continued her education and completed a Master of Science in HDFS with a specialization in Child Life from Alabama as well. Anna has been working as a child life specialist since July of 2019 at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. When completing her internship in fall of 2017 Anna worked in the Emergency Department focusing on Abuse cases. During her thesis work Anna focused on learning more about child life’s role in pediatrics-SAFE’s.
