Through this presentation, a personal story of struggle within the child life field will give light to an opportunity for growth and resiliency amidst intense challenge. Each participant will consider how personality and self-awareness impact approaches to clinical practice. Workplace culture will be explored in relation to well-being. Participants will reflect on personal challenges and learn tools to shift their story to one of grit and perseverance.
Objectives:
Reflect on commonly faced challenges in the workplace; identify how their own personality and level of self-awareness may play a role.
Define workplace culture and assess its connection to well-being and approaches to practice as a child life specialist.
Identify skills for navigating challenges and impacting change with grit and a growth mindset.

Sarah Scott
MS, CCLS
Sarah Scott has been a certified child life specialist at Children's Hospital Colorado for 8 years. She worked in the cardiac intensive care and step-down units for 7 of those years, where she discovered a passion for advocating for patients with chronic illnesses. While in cardiology, Sarah helped create the CINCO volunteer program to better serve this patient population. Sarah now oversees the medical dog program at CHCO and continues to work with patients and families in cardiology on a consult basis with her facility dog, Galaxy.
