The Care and De-escalation of the Sensory Patient
Child Life services can pioneer exceptional care for patients with sensory needs. Our presentation establishes a deeper knowledge of sensory conditions and we’ll identify how perception effects our understanding of sensory patients, while discussing how overcoming those barriers allows for exceptional psychosocial care. We’ll teach sensory-specific de-escalation techniques and how they can be applied to safely de-escalate a child during a sensory event.
Learning Objectives:
- Develop a foundation of knowledge about the top three sensory diagnoses.
- Identify the role that perception plays with sensory patients, and how to overcome barriers.
- Cultivate de-escalation skills by learning sensory-specific techniques and their application
