
Using Biopsychosocial Assessments and Trauma-Informed Care to Address Staff Misconceptions and Mitigate Trauma Responses
Medical trauma, trauma-informed care, and biopsychosocial assessments are concepts familiar to child life specialists. When these concepts are integrated into child life assessment and interventions, potential to reduce the adverse effects of trauma improve. This presentation explores timing of assessments, interventions, and potential to mitigate medical traumatic stress.

Lendy Chapman
Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children
Lendy Chapman has been a Certified Child Life Specialist for 15 years. After completing her training at Riley Hospital for Children, Lendy joined the staff at Texas Children's Hospital to implement child life programming at an outlying community facility. Later, Lendy moved to the outpatient Hem/Onc unit at the main campus of Texas Children's Hospital and served the Hem/Onc population for an additional year and a half. Lendy then went to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida, where she currently works today. During her time at Arnold Palmer Hospital, Lendy has worked in the Emergency Department, which has the area's only Level 1 trauma center, NICU, Acute Pediatrics, Radiology, and currently in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit/Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Additionally, Lendy currently serves on the Child Life Certifying Committee as an Item Reviewer and is excited to be presenting at conference for a 4th time. Lendy is also an Operation Smile volunteer and has completed 3 missions thus far.
In May of 2015, Lendy graduated from Boston University with her Masters degree in Health Communications and also currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor at University of Central Florida where she co-teaches a child life course.

Caitlin graduated from the College of Charleston with a Master's in Child Life in 2017 after completing a child life internship at Children's National in Washington, DC. Caitlin provides child life services in the emergency department at the University of New Mexico Children's Hospital.
